Hello and Welcome

Hi, I’m Chelsea. The person behind The Learning Hive here at Melodi Meadows. I am a fully qualified primary teacher with over 15 years experience in the classroom.

How this journey began

I was born and raised in America, Florida to be precise, and have always had a natural gravitation towards education. Alongside my love for learning and teaching, I was equally very good at connecting, nurturing and engaging with young minds. That combination ultimately led me to obtaining an honours degree in primary education at Florida Gulf Coast University in Naples, Florida. This is where my education career began.

After a couple years teaching in a local elementary school in Naples, Florida, I then moved to Essex, England and carried on my teaching career for a further 13 years, before finally settling here in Carmarthen, SW Wales.

Since moving to SW Wales I now home educate my two children and offer my expert teaching and tutoring services to the local community. That’s why I created The Learning Hive. I run the Hive at my home residence where I offer bespoke, unique and engaging educational sessions to primary aged students.

The freedom to do what I love

I have spent over fifteen years in classroom teaching across Reception through to Year 6 and have thoroughly enjoyed educating, inspiring and shaping the minds of the future. I absolutely loved what I did and the impact I had on my students, school and the wider community; it was such a blessing and an honour.

However, over the past few years there has been a huge noticeable and fundamental change in the education system where teachers, like myself, have felt that we are no longer allowed to do what we love to do, which is to teach, encourage and nurture children in a creative, engaging and supportive environment. The reason for this is because the modern education system has shifted from a human-centred profession into a data-driven, corporate-style environment that prioritizes compliance and paperwork over actual teaching. Alongside this shifted focus, in an already stretched education system, you add in financial budget cuts which equate to the loss of experienced and passionate educators, followed by maxed out class sizes (compiling of children with varies learning needs) forcing the hand of the educator to ‘teach to the overall average;’ making specialised support nearly impossible. Schools at the moment are simply underfunded, overburdened, and stretched to full capacity, therefore a single teacher with thirty plus students simply cannot give each child what they need in order to truly thrive within their educational journey. With the added stressors within the school system you have many children who are quite frankly struggling on many levels, quietly slipping through the failing system and falling behind academically at no fault of their own.

Stepping out of the mainstream education system has allowed me to continue my passion in primary education whilst offering my skillset to those individuals who may need extra support, a quieter more nurtured learning environment, an assist in closing learning gaps, and or spark new interests within their learning journey.

Tutoring allows me the freedom to go back to my roots, to do what I love, to teach in a nurturing and passionate way and to continue to inspire the next generation of learners.

Whether it's 1:1 or a small group, every student gets the attention they deserve, to feel inspired, to grow in confidence, to work at their own pace, with no rushing and or moving on before they're ready. That is why I created The Learning Hive. So, if you are reading this welcome. I am so very glad you are here and I look forward to working alongside you and your learner.

Outside of education

When I am not home educating, tutoring or running classes you will usually find me outdoors in nature.

I love gardening, animals, farming and going on long walks with my family. I am particularly obsessed with waterfalls and equally love a good sunset at the beach.

I recently moved to SW Wales with my family from Leigh on Sea, Essex. We are enjoying this lifestyle change and love exploring the countryside; we especially enjoy living on a small hold where we get to care for lots of animals and try our hand at gardening.
